Where It All Started: The Foundation (1988)
In 1988, Betty Watkins saw an opportunity that others overlooked. As a proud member of the Delta Omicron Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., she understood firsthand what Greek Life meant to her community: the bonds, the service, the legacy. But she also saw members struggling to find quality paraphernalia that truly represented their organizations with the dignity they deserved.
With four children to support and a vision bigger than herself, Betty opened the doors to Betty's Promos Plus. Her goal was simple but powerful: create a place where Divine 9 members could find authentic, high-quality gear that honored their letters and their legacy. Every item mattered. Every customer was family.
What began as a small operation quickly earned a reputation for something rare in the industry: genuine care paired with uncompromising quality. Betty didn't just sell Greek paraphernalia. She understood the pride behind every purchase, the significance of every symbol, the stories behind every set of letters.
Building the Legacy: Growing Through Service
As Betty's Promos Plus grew, so did the family's commitment. Sonya Watkins, Betty's daughter and a fellow member of the Delta Omicron Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., joined the business and brought her creative vision. As an educator with over 35 years of service to her sorority, Sonya understood that paraphernalia wasn't just merchandise. It was wearable pride, tangible history, and a way for members to carry their legacy into the world.
Sonya became the creative force behind Betty's Promos Plus, designing custom t-shirts, bags, accessories, and specialty items that members couldn't find anywhere else. Her designs didn't just look good. They told stories, celebrated milestones, and helped chapters stand out. Working alongside her mother, Sonya transformed Betty's Promos Plus from a local shop into a destination for Greek Life communities throughout Florida and beyond.
The business earned something that can't be bought: trust. In 2015, Betty and Sonya were recognized at the Alpha Kappa Alpha Authorized Vendors Conference for 25 years of service as a licensed vendor. This recognition was a testament to their commitment to authenticity, quality, and doing business the right way.

The Digital Transformation: Meeting the Next Generation
Every family business faces a pivotal moment: will the next generation carry the torch? For Betty's Promos Plus, that moment came when Jaret Watkins, Sonya's son and Betty's grandson, brought a new vision to the table.
A proud member of the Iota Xi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. (crossed at Duke University) and a graduate of Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management, Jaret grew up in the aisles of Betty's Promos Plus. He worked every role, from inventory to customer service, and understood the business from the ground up. But he also saw untapped potential.
In an era when most Greek paraphernalia shopping was moving online, Jaret led Betty's digital transformation. He rebuilt the website from scratch, implemented sophisticated e-commerce systems, optimized the online experience, and expanded the business's reach far beyond Central Florida. Today, chapters from coast to coast order from Betty's Promos Plus, trusting the same quality and service that Orlando locals have relied on for nearly four decades.
But Jaret didn't just modernize the technology. He preserved the family's values. Every online order still receives the same careful attention Betty gave to her first in-store customers in 1988. The website may be sophisticated, but the heart of the business remains unchanged.

As a career educator and dedicated AKA member with 35+ years of service, she understands that Greek paraphernalia represents something deeper than fashion. It's identity, legacy, and pride. Her designs have become favorites among Divine 9 members who want quality gear that stands out.
